This project is co-ordinated by the Education & Outreach (E & O) Team at the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute (BDI), Dublin City University. The team has significant expertise in the development and delivery of health outreach programmes for the general public.
Our events centre around the development and adaptation of the “Diagnosis PlayDecide” kit. In particular, we are developing the kit to engage with adult learning networks based in Dublin City.
Adapting the kit, to include a multimedia format, we are collaborating with two existing adult learning networks namely, the 'Dublin Adult Literacy Centre’ and ‘DCU in the Community’. This new generation of the PlayDecide format will enable adults with low reading and writing competence and non-native English speakers to participate in dialogue on health topics of personal relevance.
We are collaborating with BDI ethics researchers in the development of supplementary content, such as additional story cards. This will expand the focus of the Decide kit to encompass health topics such as cardiovascular disease; a topic of local and international interest and one of BDI’s key research areas.
This work will culminate in two main events, where people involved with both collaborating networks will be invited to participate in the new Decide dialogue activity. We envisage that these events will attract a varied audience with limited prior engagement with science.
In the first instance, people involved with the 'Dublin Adult Literacy Centre' and 'DCU in the Community' are welcome to take part.
